It comes as more than 270 flights have been scrubbed from this week’s schedule. Pilots have entered the second day of indefinite work-to-rule action. They have also planned a one-day strike for Saturday. The Taoiseach has urged both sides to ‘engage in good faith to resolve this dispute.’ It follows separate mediation talks at the Labour Court attended by IALPA and Aer Lingus on Tuesday. Pilots are seeking a 23.8% pay rise while Aer Lingus has offered just over half of this. The airline says the pay demand is ‘unsustainable.’Related News Stories: Aer Lingus braced for disruption as pilots set for industrial action Aer Lingus reveals upcoming flight cancellations Aer Lingus could cancel one in five flights Spirit Airlines to defer Airbus orders, furlough pilots EasyJet launches summer flight school kids experience Discover Qatar launching Doha Air Tours India's Akasa Air goes international What's new in Fort Lauderdale Four die in Cancun boat accident - TravelMole Air Transat voted 2024 World's Best Leisure Airline at the Skytrax ...

It identified over 240 flights over five days which are expected to be cancelled, affecting as many as 35,000 passengers. The airline says it could also make last minute cancellations on the day of travel. Aer Lingus pilots are set to start indefinite work to rule action from Wednesday. An eight hour strike on Saturday is also planned. Both sides in the dispute have left the door open for further discussions. Pilots are taking action over a requested pay increase of nearly 24%. The airline has offered just over half of this. “The insidious nature of this industrial action has the capacity to result in much more cancellations over the coming weeks if it’s not resolved,” said Donal Moriarty, Aer Lingus chief corporate affairs officerRelated News Stories: Aer Lingus unveils new 'Green Spirit' livery Aer Lingus launching Vegas flights Mabrian: The world's best countries for international flight ... Pilots are about to begin ‘work to rule’ action as part of a pay dispute. This is expected to kick in from midnight next Wednesday. Aer Lingus chief corporate affairs officer Dónal Moriarty acknowledged it could cause ‘significant impact’ to flight schedules Work to rule would see pilots declining to work on days off and refusing overtime. It comes at the busiest time of year for the airline. The Aer Lingus summer schedule has a capacity of about 40,000 passengers per day. The work to rule action is ‘indefinite.’ In a second ballot at the weekend, pilots voted for all-out strike action which could still lead to one day stoppages. Pilots are seeking almost 24% pay increases. The airline has so far offered just over half of that. “We are in this position because management have failed to provide us with a meaningful offer on pay that accounts for inflation and sacrifices made to save Aer Lingus during the pandemic,” said IALPA president Captain Mark Tighe. “Management keep insisting that pilots must sell their working conditions in exchange for any increase in pay. We are absolutely not prepared to do that.”Related News Stories: British Airways adding third daily Chicago flight Heathrow Border Force strike begins
