On October 27, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines expanded its US network with new nonstop service between Portland, Oregon (PDX) and Amsterdam (AMS) taking over this route from partner Delta Air Lines with three weekly flights increasing to five for the spring/summer season. A state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner operates between PDX and AMS which aligns with Delta’s previous configuration by featuring 30 World Business Class flat-beds, 21 seats in a dedicated Premium Comfort Class, and 224 in Economy Class. There are also 48 Economy Comfort seats with extra legroom and recline (equivalent to Delta Comfort+). During Winter 2024/2025, the flights will operate on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday with the following schedule: KL615 departs AMS 10:25 am/ arrives PDX 11:25 am KL616 departs PDX 1:30 pm/ arrives AMS 7:55 am the next day Beginning March 30 frequencies will increase with flights operating Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with the following schedule: KL615 departs AMS 10:40 am/ arrives PDX 11:30 am KL616 departs PDX 1:30 pm/ arrives AMS 7:55 am the next day KLM serves over 160 destinations in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas. Portland becomes KLM’s 14th U.S. gateway joining: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York-JFK, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Washington. Customers can conveniently connect to over 70 one-stop destinations via KLM’s global hub at award-winning Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. All customers on board enjoy power ports, WiFi, and complimentary wine and beer. Starting October 27 2024, KLM will fly three times a week during winter and five times a week during summer from Amsterdam to Portland, Oregon. UK passengers can connect to these flights from one of KLM's 17 departure points across the UK. The new KLM flights replace partner Delta Air Lines' service on this route. Delta is KLM’s partner in their transatlantic joint venture. Delta has been flying between Amsterdam and Portland for 15 years. From October 27, KLM offers Portland flights three times a week on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday during winter. In summer 2025, the airline will fly five times a week. The route will be operated by KLM’s Boeing 787-9 fleet with 30 seats in World Business Class, 21 seats in Premium Comfort, and 224 Economy seats. Portland is the state capital of Oregon. It's a year-round destination noted for its easy access to a host of natural attractions such as Mt. Hood, Columbia River Gorge and Forest Park. It happened on the tarmac at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport as a KLM flight was preparing to depart. The KLM Cityhopper service was travelling to Billund in Denmark. “A fatal incident took place when a person ended up in a running aircraft engine,” KLM said in a statement. “Sadly the person has died.” The victim has not yet been named or even confirmed if it was an airport worker. Dutch media outlets suggested it was most likely am airport ground worker. A full investigation is underway. "Our thoughts go out to the relatives and we are caring for the passengers and colleagues who saw this,” the airport said. These incidents are rare.
