The Latin American Travel Association marks its 10th edition of LATA Expo this summer. Europe’s largest B2B event dedicated to Latin American travel takes place from 19-21 June. This anniversary show has the theme of ‘The Power of Tourism’. Since the first edition in 2014, LATA Expo has grown to become Europe’s largest focused on Latin America. It welcomes exhibitors from across the region, including tour operators, accommodation, cruise and airlines partners. Colin Stewart, chairman of LATA, said: “Now that connectivity has improved, we look forward to hosting a very special 10^th edition of LATA Expo.” Last year, LATA Expo hosted its inaugural ministerial think tank, with tourism ministers and leaders. This year, LATA expands it to take place over two days with a focus on the benefits of cross-border collaboration. LATA Expo 2023 will also feature dedicated events for both travel agents and media. Travel agents will be invited to an interactive training session on 21 June featuring flagship Latin American destinations and tour operators. Agents can register here. LATA Foundation Covid-19 emergency appeal In June, the LATA Foundation set up its emergency Covid-19 appeal in a response to the devastating impact the global pandemic is having in Latin America. The appeal provides small grants to a range of charities and organisations that have been severely impacted as a result of the global pandemic. Since establishing the appeal, the LATA Foundation has supported nine emergency projects. From facilitating PPE for midwives serving in remote communities in Guatemala to funding food parcels for porters in Peru whose income has dried up due to the lack of tourism; funds have been carefully allocated to ensure support goes to those who are most in need during these challenging times. Panama Journeys Panama opens air borders to commercial and international flights On October 12, 2020, Panama opened air borders to commercial and international flights. This reopening occured under strict health controls. Travellers must present a negative COVID-19 test with a maximum of 48 hours before boarding. The passengers who do not present it upon arrival must undergo a rapid test, at a cost of $50. Since this date, flights have been scheduled by airlines including Air France, Iberia, United Airlines, and KLM. Turkish Airlines and Air Europa are expected to do so from November & December respectively.

Chile Travel To reopen the tourism sector safely and responsibly for staff and visitors, Chile is implementing the “Tourist Trust” certificate of commitment. The objective of this Certificate of Commitment is to ensure that tourism service providers comply with health measures, recommendations and all management and prevention actions to minimize contagion risks. Therefore, once the company or service signs the “Tourist Confidence” certificate, the company must comply with all the established protocols and good practices guidelines, otherwise SERNATUR may restrict and/or prohibit the use of the certificate.
