High-end resorts meet dramatic landscapes that offer unlimited potential for adventure and exploration. Three activity brands have been created to bring guests an array of experiences, many of which are unique to the area and require little to no experience. ‘Soft Adventure’ activities allow every traveller to get involved and make lasting memories. If exploring the world’s fourth largest coral reef with diving brand Galaxea, seems too daunting, over-water activity brand, WAMA, offers a selection of aquatic activities including kayaking through mangrove forests, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, foiling, kite surfing and sailing the Red Sea’s soft swells. The newly announced WAMA Sailing Club will allow guests to enjoy sailing, crewing, trapezing and windsurfing, all guided by expert instructors. The brand’s ‘Respect for the Sea’ programme will also help guests to develop a deeper understanding of staying safe on the water and sailing responsibly. The Red Sea zone boasts sweeping desert dunes, mountain canyons, dormant volcanoes, and ancient cultural and heritage sites. With land-based activity brand, AKUN, guests can traverse different landscapes and immerse themselves in the rich nature and culture of the area. Activities on offer include exploring caves, hiking, e-biking, wildlife photography, e-buggy safaris, birdwatching, stargazing and much more. For hikers interested in history, routes can be arranged to encounter cultural treasures such as Al Marzouqui, a rock formation etched with 4,000-year-old pictograms as well as dinosaur fossilised teeth found in the Hijaz Mountains. AKUN, which means ‘to be’, is centred on living in the moment and seizing the natural world through exploration and adventure. The brand is closely connected to the local communities, working to develop conservation and cultural trails and share the incredible stories of the ancient land and its people. Many of the guides that will be leading hikes are local Saudis that descend from the Jihana tribe, armed with knowledge and ancient stories from the area. Guests can also learn from falcon trainers about this age-old pastime and develop survival skills taught by Saudi Arabia’s Bedouin tribes. Travellers can find endless possibilities for adventure in this unexplored region of Saudi Arabia and relax and reset in world-class hotels. The first hotel opening this year welcomed guests to Six Senses Southern Dunes The Red Sea in November, with The St. Regis Red Sea Resort, and Nujuma A Ritz-Carlton Reserve following suit in 2024. With luxury hotel and spa facilities surrounded by undiscovered terrain, adventure and relaxation come together at The Red Sea in an all-encompassing approach to wellbeing. Travellers will leave feeling invigorated and restored, and itching to return. -

Red Sea Global (RSG), the multi-project developer behind the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism destinations, The Red Sea and Amaala, has today signed a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA) and daa International, the operator of Red Sea International (RSI) airport, that will see SAUDIA become the first airline to operate in and out of the Red Sea International airport (RSI). RSI is on track to open this year along with the first three resorts at The Red Sea destination. Initially it will open for domestic flights to and from Riyadh and later Jeddah, before expanding to handle international flights from 2024. “In 2016, His Royal Highness, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, set out a vision for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A vision for a thriving country, one that was recognized as a global hub, where people from all around the world would come to experience the best of Saudi culture, hospitality and nature,” said John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global. “When the first commercial flight lands at Red Sea International, it won’t just be a point of personal pride for Red Sea Global. It will be a milestone moment for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in making that vision a reality. It is fitting, therefore, that the Kingdom’s flag carrier, SAUDIA, will be first to operate from our destination,” said John Pagano, Group CEO, Red Sea Global.” The agreement will see SAUDIA commence regular scheduled services to and from RSI. It also provides a framework for the three organizations to undertake joint research on the use of Lower Carbon Aviation Fuel (LCAF) and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at Red Sea International Airport. The use of electric vertical take-off and landing jets (eVTOL) to reduce emissions from air travel to The Red Sea will also be evaluated. Capt. Ibrahim Koshy, CEO of SAUDIA, said: "Today’s agreement marks a new chapter in Saudi Arabia’s aviation history. As wings of Vision 2030, SAUDIA’s contribution is to be an enabler in attaining giga projects targets, and our involvement as the first airline to operate from and to Red Sea International airport is a source of pride for us all. This agreement will strengthen our position in the Kingdom and allow us to collaborate with RSG and daa International to boost tourism and enhance the country’s standing within international aviation.” The agreement expands on daa International’s existing relationship with RSG as the operator of its international airport. daai will continue to manage the airport and work with SAUDIA on various activities, such as the allocation of airport gates and counters. Mr. Nicholas Cole, CEO of daa International, said: “Red Sea International is a new gateway for travelers to experience the wonders of Saudi Arabia. Bringing our unmatched airport management expertise, we will work with RSG and SAUDIA to ensure RSI delivers a truly unique experience for all who pass through it.” Three resorts at The Red Sea will open this year along with the first phase of the Red Sea International airport. A further 13 hotels will open as part of phase one, and upon full completion in 2030, the destination will comprise 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. The destination will also include luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, F&B, and leisure facilities. -

Red Sea Global (RSG), the developer behind two of the world's most ambitious regenerative tourism destinations, The Red Sea and Amaala, is now a destination partner of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). WTTC is the global authority on the economic and social contribution of travel and tourism. It promotes sustainable growth for the sector, working closely with governments and international institutions to create job opportunities, drive exports, and generate prosperity. RSG will work with the member organisation to highlight the potential of responsible travel and regenerative tourism. “This year we are welcoming our first guests to The Red Sea destination. Our partnership with WTTC helps us to open the eyes of the world to the beauty, diversity, and cultural heritage of the Saudi Arabian Red Sea coast,” said Tracy Lanza, Group Head of Global Brand and Marketing at Red Sea Global. “At both The Red Sea and Amaala, we have chosen to go beyond sustainability and seek to make a positive, regenerative impact on the environment and on society. This partnership also allows us to show the industry what we have achieved, to demonstrate that there is a better way to develop and operate, and to encourage others to pursue regenerative tourism for the benefit of people and planet.” This collaboration allows RSG to exchange knowledge and best practices with an impressive network of industry leaders and experts who share its vision for a more sustainable future in tourism. Other WTTC destination partners include DGDA, NEOM, AlUla, as well as ATOUT France, Brand USA, Visit California, Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Visit Rwanda and TURESPAÑA, among others. With this partnership, RSG also benefits from WTTC's annual Economic Impact Research for more than 185 countries and 26 regions around the world. Additionally, RSG will be able to take the lead on strategic WTTC initiatives, namely, Travel & Mobility, Sustainable Future, and Digital Transformation. Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, said: “With the addition of Red Sea Global as a valued member, the World Travel & Tourism Council is reinforcing our shared commitment to a more sustainable and regenerative future. “Red Sea Global's commitment to uplifting communities, driving economies, and preserving our environment aligns seamlessly with the ethos of WTTC. Together, we shall pioneer a path where innovation, responsibility, and prosperity converge, creating destinations that not only inspire but actively enrich the lives of all stakeholders.” The Red Sea and Amaala destinations are expected to generate 120,000 jobs and receive up to 1.5 million tourists annually, boosting local economies and providing opportunities for sustainable growth. Additionally, the focus on regenerative tourism practices will ensure that the natural beauty and resources of these regions are preserved for future generations to enjoy. RSG announced in July that it has now fully installed more than 760,000 photovoltaic panels, which will power phase one of The Red Sea. One of its five solar farms is located near Six Senses Southern Dunes, The Red Sea, which will be the first hotel to open at The Red Sea in the coming months. The utilities at the resort are already being powered by the solar farm. Two additional hotels will be open by the end of the year and by early 2025, 16 hotels and Red Sea International airport will be completed. Upon full completion in 2030, the destination will comprise 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. The destination will also include luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, F&B, and leisure facilities. Phase One of Amaala – focused on the Triple Bay masterplan – is well underway, with the first guests set to be welcomed in early 2025. It will consist of eight resorts offering upwards of 1,200 hotel keys. Once complete, Amaala will be home to more than 3,900 hotel rooms across 29 hotels, and approximately 1,200 luxury residential villas, apartments, and estate homes, supporting high-end retail, fine dining, wellness, and recreational facilities. -
