  Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced Australia’s borders will swing open for fully-vaccinated travellers from February 21. It comes as Covid-19 cases continue to drop. Australia’s international borders have been closed nearly two years with the tourism sector badly affected. It has been hailed by trade groups and airlines including Qantas. "Borders reopening to international tourists means Australia is finally back open for business," Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said. "We will be looking at our schedules to see if we can restart flights from more international destinations sooner or add capacity to those routes we are already flying.” "We have the flexibility to ramp up flights in response to demand." The PM said the federal government had been working tirelessly to re-open Australia's borders in stages since November 2021. “Those programmes have proceeded very successfully - whether it was programmes with New Zealand or Singapore, , opening up to international students and backpackers and economic migrants who are coming to Australia, that will now be extended to international visitors who will be able to return," he said. "If you're double-vaccinated, we look forward to welcoming you back to Australia and I know the tourism industry will be looking forward to that." Since November, when border restrictions were first relaxed, about 300,000 people have entered Australia.

  North Queensland natural attraction changes ownership - News & announcements

  The G'Day Group has acquired the Undara Experience in Tropical North Queensland. Undara Experience, on the edge of the Undara Volcanic National Park, is located 275km southwest of Cairns. It is a gateway to the network of lava tubes caused by a volcanic eruption 190,000 years ago. These tubes are part of the World's longest lava flow from a single volcano in modern geological time. Naturalist David Attenborough once called it the 8th Wonder of the World. Undara Experience was established by the Collins family, original settlers in the area nearly 160 years ago, who still graze cattle in the area six generations later. "The decision to sell Undara has been a difficult one. I am extremely proud of what we have built over the last three decades, including the incredible experiences we have created to connect people with nature, said owner and director of Undara, Bram Collins. "I would also like to acknowledge this has only been possible through the relationships we have held with the traditional owners, the Ewamian Aboriginal People, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and our long association with Savannah Guides.". G'Dday Group has a portfolio of attractions including El Questro in WA, Kings Canyon in the NT, and the Discovery -  Rottnest Island (WA) glamping experience among others. "The Undara Experience is a fantastic addition to our portfolio - very much aligned with our desire to be synonymous with the great Aussie holiday," said G'Dday Group CEO Grant Wilckens Undara currently offers a range of accommodation options with 60 cabins comprising 18 Homestead Rooms, six Pioneer Huts, 18 Railway Carriage rooms, 29 Swag Tents and 57 powered and 36 unpowered sites, with room for further development. Its tours of the lava tube network and wildlife at sunset tours are popular with travellers. It also hosts the Undara Outback Rock and Blues festival every year.

  Former Tourism Australia boss joins Tourism Tropical North Queensland Board - News & announcements

  Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) has appointed Experience Co CEO John O'Sullivan to its Board of Directors. TTNQ Chair Ken Chapman said the Board is delighted to welcome O'Sullivan who brings extensive marketing experience to the Board. "John heads a very large publicly-listed tourism business and has phenomenal marketing experience," Chapman said. He has more than 25 years' experience in the tourism and related industries including a five year tenure as the Managing Director of Tourism Australia. He also held senior executive roles with Football Federation Australia, Events Queensland and Fox Sport. O'Sullivan is currently a Commissioner of Tourism Western Australia. "I am excited to have been invited on to the Board to share my experience and support the region," O'Sullivan said. Experience Co has a major presence in Tropical North Queensland, operating Dreamtime Dive and Snorkel, Reef Magic, Fitzroy Island Adventures, Big Cat Green Island, Calypso Reef Cruises, Daintree Tours and Skydive Australia.
