Fred. Holidays has launched a new and exclusive Rail & Sail itinerary featuring AmaWaterways’ new Colombia river cruise on the Magdalena river and a luxury rail journey to Machu Picchu.

The 16-night ‘Columbia By River & Luxury Machu Picchu Rail & Sail’ trip starts with an overnight in Cartagena followed by a seven-night river cruise on the magnificent Magdalena river onboard the newly-launched AmaMagdalena. Step through the streets of Palenque, the first free city in Colombia, moving to the rhythms of cumbia and vallenato, world-renown musical styles. Delight in the colourful neighbourhood of Getsemaní in Cartagena, drinking in the vivid colours and culture displayed so artfully on the walls of homes, cafes and family-owned shops. Discover how Spanish and pre-colonial cultures combined to bring us the music, minds and culture that exist in the country today.

Upon disembarking in Barranquilla, fly to Lima (via Bogota) for a two-night stay at the five-star Belmond hotel including a guided tour of the city.

Next a short flight to Cusco, deep in the heart of the Andes, transfer through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to a five-star Belmond property for a two-night stay before boarding the Hiram Bingham, A Belmond Train for a luxury rail journey from Rio Sagrado station up to Machu Picchu. Stay overnight at the five-star Belmond Sanctuary Lodge with time to explore before boarding the Hiram Bingham, A Belmond Train back down to Cusco for an overnight at a five-star Belmond property. Following a half-day tour of Cusco, transfer to the airport for the flight back to the UK.

There are two departures on 20th June 2024 and 4th July 2024 with prices from £12,999 per person. Price includes return flights from London (regional flights available on request); overseas transfers; all hotel accommodation listed in the itinerary; the seven-night full-board cruise on AmaMagdalena; flight from Barranquilla to Lima; guided tour of Lima; flight from Lima to Cusco; excursions to Machu Picchu, Awanakancha Centre and Pisac, Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, Moray, Maras, Lima, Cusco, Cartagena, Palenque, Calamar, Santa Barbara de Pinto, Mompox, El Banco, Nueva Venecia and Baranquilla; birdwatching tour of Magangue; exclusive Colombian Carnaval celebration; return travel on the Hiram Bingham, A Belmond Train with lunch one way and dinner on the return; guided tour of Machu Picchu; entrance fees to monuments; and porterage during time in Peru.
