News For Summer And Beyond And Latest Booking Trends – Elegant Resorts
With bookings for Easter 2024 up and summer selling well, Elegant Resorts is looking ahead to a host of inspiring new itineraries, hotels, and destinations. From bucket list holidays in emerging ‘cool’ spots like Finland to a resurgence of old favourites in Asia like Thailand, the luxury travel market is poised for an exciting second half of the year.
Key booking trends
With the school holidays fast approaching, Spain is Elegant Resorts’ best-selling destination for Easter 2024. Unsurprisingly, after one of the wettest winters on record in the UK, the Canary Islands (with 75% of bookings to Spain) are proving most popular when it comes to the search for sunshine.
Easter bookings overall are up 19% on 2023 with Barbados, UAE and the Maldives all retaining their position in the top five and performing well in terms of year-round sales. Nudging out the USA, Thailand – which didn’t make the top ten last year – is the fifth most favoured Easter getaway.
Bookings for summer 2024 so far are on a par with last summer, although Greece is capturing even more market share than usual with a 24% increase. Many clients have booked early to avoid disappointment and perennial favourites remain Corfu and Crete, followed by Kos and the Peloponnese.
Similar to last year, Italy, Spain and Portugal are all being favoured by families, but the USA has replaced Barbados as the fifth most popular summer destination. Virgin’s new direct flights from Manchester to Las Vegas starting in June come at just the right time, as does EasyJet’s new route from Gatwick to Salerno on the Amalfi coast in July.
Although fly and flop beach holidays continue to exert a powerful draw, the lure of bucket list destinations is gaining traction. Finnish Lapland is proving a big hit and French Polynesia and Argentina are also featuring increasingly on people’s must-see lists. Elegant Resorts has identified a growing appetite for transformational travel where guests open themselves up to trying something new or undertaking a “once in a lifetime” journey, to return home enlightened by their discoveries.
With an extensive range of tailormade itineraries on offer, Asia is back with a bang, and British Airways returns to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur in the autumn whilst holidays to central/Latin America and Australasia are also growing in demand.
Wellness holidays now account for a 7% share of bookings and are set to increase in popularity as more and more people look to prioritise their health and wellbeing and include these as an essential part of their holidaying habits. Longevity escapes are now a big thing in health and wellbeing. With the medical spa market projected to reach $49 billion by 2030 due to the number of affluent consumers seeking to extend their lives, treatments like oxygen therapy and anti-ageing IV infusions are increasingly in demand.
What’s new for summer and beyond?
