When the time to visit is right, we can’t wait to help you rediscover Nova Scotia! In the meantime, our operators haven’t been idle … here are just a few things that we are excited to share with you in 2021 and beyond!
- A brand new development in downtown Halifax will open in 2021 and will be a combination of office space, residences, retail shops and restaurants … and a brand new hotel! MUIR , Nova Scotia’s first Autograph Collection Hotel, will be a 5-star waterfront property with 109 hotel rooms and suites with custom-designed furniture, a signature tartan throw on every bed, elevated and refined regional dining, a spa and wellness centre, cold plunge and hydrotherapy pools, a halotherapy salt room, a speakeasy and private guest-only art gallery and so much more!
- Located in the Annapolis Valley next to a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Domaine de Grand Pré is Atlantic Canada’s oldest Farm Winery, owned and operated by the Stutz Family, since 1994. The Swiss born family quickly made its mark displaying a European sensibility for quality and passion for wine. Now they are applying those same principles to a new on-site development: The Inn at the Winery, scheduled to open spring 2021 in the family’s former farm house. 6 new spacious rooms will be spread out amongst the 3-level home. The ground level will also be home to a Chef’s Table Dining Experience for 8-10 guests where you can watch your 5 or 7 course, wine-paired meal being prepared.
- The Bluenose – 100th Anniversary Celebrations: A plethora of events are being planned to mark the centennial of the launch of Canada’s most famous tallship, The Bluenose. Kicking off with a virtual birthday event in Lunenburg on March 26th, activities will run throughout the year, many in a virtual format for all to enjoy. As part of the celebration, the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic will also expand and revise its Bluenose exhibit and open the new “Big Boat Shed”, a space for additional exhibits and workshops for even more visitor programming!
- Parks Canada o’TENTiks accommodations are described as a cross between a tent and a rustic cabin and will now be available as an immersive experience to visitors at Grand-Pré National Historic Site and the Landscape of Grand-Pré UNESCO World Heritage Site. Parks Canada will be installing 8 o’TENTiks that will be located in the fields south of the visitor information center and will be available starting spring 2021.
- Soaring 30 meters above the top of Cape Smokey on Cape Breton Island will be North America’s first and only Tree Walk! The Ingonish Tree Walk will allow you to explore nature, learn about the history of the Mi’kmaq people and take in magnificent views of the Cabot Trail and the Atlantic Ocean. Opening July 2021, the Tree Walk is delicately incorporated into the landscape and will be accessed by trail or the brand new 8-person gondola, the first in Atlantic Canada. Riders will go from the bottom of Cape Smokey, up 320 vertical meters to the top in 4 minutes. The walkway to the Tree Walk will feature 14 large educational signs highlighting history, local flora and fauna.
- Peggy’s Cove will have a new viewing deck this summer, designed to allow visitors to view the lighthouse and experience the rocks and waves in a way that is fully accessible and safe. The viewing deck will complement infrastructure enhancements already underway: new washroom facilities, improved parking, curbs and sidewalks to improve pedestrian safety, and renovations to the deGarthe Studio.
