Cruise ship crew member jailed for 30 Years

Cruise ship crew member working for Royal Caribbean has been handed a 30-year prison sentence for planting a hidden cameras in staterooms.

Filipino crew member Arvin Joseph Mirasol had already pleaded guilty to producing child pornography at an earlier hearing.

Earlier this year a guest staying in the stateroom on the Symphony of the Seas discovered the camera hidden beneath a sink in the bathroom.

Mirasol was at the time a stateroom attendant who had access to the cabin, the Southern Florida U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

He was handed over to Homeland Security Investigations and Customs and Border Protection officers.

The investigation uncovered numerous videos of minors aged from 2 to 17 years of age.

Mirasol was formally arrested on federal CSAM charges in March.

He was charged with six counts of video voyeurism.

“Mirasol had been placing cameras in passenger cabins since December of 2023. Mirasol would enter the guests’ rooms while they were showering and hide under their beds so he could secretly record them exiting the shower,” the SDFL office said in a statement.
