British Airways owner International Airlines Group (IAG) will order 50 new Boeing 737 Max aircraft.

It confirms a tentative agreement with Boeing back in 2019 before the pandemic.

IAG will take 25 Boeing 737-8200 aircraft and 25 Boeing 737-10s.

It includes options for another 100 aircraft.

IAG signed an initial letter of intent for 200 Max jets in 2019.

“The addition of new Boeing 737s is an important part of IAG´s shorthaul fleet renewal,” IAG boss Luis Gallego said.

“These latest generation aircraft are more fuel efficient than those they will replace.”

The new aircraft will be delivered from 2023 to 2027, with the optional aircraft from 2025.

The aircraft may be used by any IAG airline for fleet replacement, including BA, Iberia, Aer Lingus, and Vueling.

“This agreement, is a welcome addition of the 737 to IAG´s short-haul fleets and reflects our commitment to support the Group’s continued network recovery,” said Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

IAG has negotiated ‘a substantial discount’ from list prices, it said.
