New York based airline Tailwind Air has ceased all scheduled flight operations.
The seaplane operator says it has been unable turn a profit despite its flagship route seeing a 10% increase in passengers.
Its key route is the New York to Boston seaplane service which departed from its New York Skyports Seaplane Base and landed directly in Boston Harbor.
These flights were operated by amphibious Cessna 208B Grand Caravans.
They were able to accommodate eight passengers.
CEO Alan Ram says it took years to get approvals for this route and hopes to resume it if it can secure additional funding.
Tailwind Air also operated flights to Nantucket, Provincetown and the Hamptons.
The New York-Boston service launched three years ago.
The company was recently in talks for extra investment but that has fallen through, Ram said.
Tailwind still has a private charter business which is expected to continue.
Referring to the seaplane scheduled services, Ram said: “This was a great time-saver for people. If we can find the right partner, we’ll keep doing it.”
