Sri Lanka launches World Cup 2022 packages
Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau recently unveiled themed travel packages for FIFA World Cup fans.
It has set up a fan zone in Negombo, a popular coastal destination in Western Sri Lanka.
This joint industry promotion sees Sri Lanka Inbound Tour Operators Association, Travel Agents Association, and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau marketing special packages
It includes flights and accommodation for five days.
All hotels, restaurants and travel agents are on board to put together the FIFA Zone to accommodate and entertain visitors. .
Sri Lankan Airlines, Flydubai, Qatar Airways and Air India have joined forces to support Sri Lanka tourism efforts.
National carrier Sri Lankan has also extended a special rate for FIFA Zone travellers and all airlines will promote the packages.
Tourism Minister Harin Fernando, said t is a one-of-kind opportunity to show the world that Sri Lanka is open for business.
The Minister is confidentt it will attract around 5,000 global football fans to Negombo.
Negombo beach will have a giant TV screen live streaming all matches, food and beverage stalls and beer gardens with music.
Negombo has a lively fish market and colonial architecture.
Tourism is Sri Lanka’s third largest export earner.
In 2019, Sri Lanka was visited by 1.9 million international tourists who generated an estimated US$ 3.6 billion to the local economy.
