A York hotel has appointed a 14-year-old boy as director of fun and families.
Sam Pointon will help The Grand Hotel & Spa run a campaign to help children get the most out of their visits to the city.
But it’s not his first director role. In 2009, when he was just six years old, Sam was appointed director of fun by York’s National Railway Museum.
"The hotel wrote to my Dad to ask if I’d like to help them with family-friendly stuff to do in York. I’m guessing there aren’t many kids who’ve done this sort of thing before," said the youngster.
Sam’s first job is to produce a series of six vlogs (video blogs) revealing his top tips for children visiting York, including family-friendly places to eat and things to do for free.
He will also help the hotel choose menus, in-room entertainment and seasonal city guides.
"We are very excited to welcome Sam to the team," said general manager Philip Bolson.
"I’ve not worked with a director who looks so fresh-faced and who has had such an impact on average employee age, but the important thing is he’s full of brilliant advice for young people visiting York and will help us enhance our family-friendly activities at the hotel."
