200 families to benefit from CLIA’s Cycle to the Ball

Fundraising efforts through CLIA’s Cycle to the Ball event have helped 200 struggling families get a well-deserved break.

Travel industry professionals took part in either a 64-mile or 82-mile ride to raise money for the Family Holiday Association (FHA), the non-profit organisation that provides breaks for UK families with issues such as disability, severe and sudden illness, bereavement, mental health issues and domestic violence.

The cyclists started their journey in Hampshire and rode west towards the De Vere Cotswolds Water Park Hotel in Gloucestershire for the CLIA Cruise Forum and Winter Ball.

Andy Harmer, CLIA UK & Ireland director, said: "Working in the travel industry, we know the importance of holidays and the joy they bring. However, not every family has the opportunity take a well-deserved break.

"The CLIA Cycle to the Ball event helps Family Holiday Association send even more deserving families on a break away from home. It’s now the third year running that CLIA has hosted this event and we are delighted to see such incredible support with each passing year.

"Thanks to the brave cyclists and to those who donated, over 200 struggling families will now be able have much-needed time away with their loved ones."

FHA head of fundraising and communications Angie Watson said: "We couldn’t be happier with the support we have received from CLIA UK & Ireland’s members and supporters and we are thrilled that we will be able to provide even more families with a well-deserved break. Thank you!"

In the team were: Giles Hawke, Avalon Waterways; Bernie Carter, Oceania Cruises; Stuart Leven, Royal Caribbean International; Dave Mills, Iglu.com; Tony Roberts, Princess Cruises and CLIA chair; Graham Sadler, Regent Seven Seas Cruises; Robbie White, Touchdown; Karen Farndell, Princess Cruises; Denise Holden, Princess Cruises; Peter Whittle, CruiseAppy; Ian Gilder, Adore Holidays and Cruises; Stephen Joyner, A-ROSA River Cruises; Matthew Gill, Travel Bulletin.
