A bounty of new places to stay awaits visitors to New York State this autumn
New York State is one of the best places to visit in the autumn or ‘Fall’, as its vibrant colours spread and harvest festivals kick into gear. And this autumn the State also boasts a rich array of new, updated and redesigned places to stay, from mountainside glamping to a sleek urban hotel complete with an indoor basketball court, to a historic inn filled with ghostly tales!
Here is a region-by-region overview of the new and recently renewed places to stay this autumn:
Adirondacks
· Home2 Suites by Hilton Queensbury Glens Falls (Queensbury), a pet-friendly hotel (for pets up to 50 pounds), has 92 studio and one-bedroom units equipped with kitchens and free Wi-Fi. There’s also a heated indoor pool, patio with fire pit, fitness centre, laundry, complimentary breakfast and business services.
Capital-Saratoga
· Courtyard by Marriott – Albany Troy/Waterfront (Troy), opening in October, will feature an inviting riverfront patio with three fire pits, 132 guest rooms, a fitness centre, indoor pool and whirlpool.

The Catskills
· Eastwind Hotel & Bar (Windham), a 1920s bunkhouse turned boutique hotel, features a sauna, fire pits and 19 accommodations options. These include three glamping cabins—wooden A-frames with a full-wall window affording stunning views. Bikes, backpacks, rain boots, snowshoes and other sports equipment are provided.

· Amsterdam Castle (Amsterdam) wows guests as they enter its 100-foot long Grand Hall with its 44-foot high ceiling and suits of armour lining the walls as though awaiting their knights. Designed by renowned 19th century Victorian architect Isaac G. Perry in the style of a European castle, this former armoury is now a 23-room boutique inn that feels like a cross between a museum and a five-star hotel.
· Delta Hotels by Marriott Utica (downtown Utica), a 162-room hotel, features a fitness centre, indoor pool and event space that can accommodate groups from simple business meetings to gatherings of up to 500 people.
Chautauqua-Allegheny
· The Chautauqua Harbor Hotel (Celoron) offers upscale lakeside lodgings, where guests can relax around indoor and outdoor pools, work out in the fitness centre and savour the scenery at the Lakeview Grill. Owners Beth and Mark Johnson, who have been operating the Dugan House Restaurant and Pub in the historic building since 2011, are adding 14 historically-authentic rooms, slated to open in this fall. The Inn faces a gorgeous park along the riverfront.

Hudson Valley
· The Wick Hotel (Hudson) is a 55-room boutique hotel located on the site of a former candle and soap factory. A Tribute Portfolio property, it combines historic elements like claw foot bathtubs, high ceilings and original hardwood floor with modern flair. Its rooftop event space affords sweeping views of the Hudson Valley. Guests also have use of a 24/7 fitness centre and electric car plugs.
· Jesse’s Harvest House & Lodge (Tannersville) known for its restaurant, now has six cosy guest rooms with private bath, free Wi-Fi and daily breakfast. The vibe is rustic country and the mountain views are glorious.
· New Concorde Bed and Breakfast (East Chatham) underwent a total renovation that added all the modern conveniences to the one-time Public House stagecoach stop while preserving its 1780s look and feel, right down to the player piano in the parlour. Once a stop on the Underground Railroad, New Concorde honours its history by naming each guest room for a different local historic figure.
· Pine Ridge Dude Ranch (Kerhonkson), located on the property of the former Pinegrove Ranch, is an all-inclusive family resort offering horseback, pony and tractor rides, an indoor pool, a game room and laser tag.
