ABTA 2004: Leisure Direction snaps up Travelscene assets
ABTA Convention Special: Specialist Leisure Direction has bought some of the assets of failed city break operator Travelscene as part of its plans to drive more business through the trade.
Leisure Direction, which offers city breaks throughout Europe and all types of holidays to France, paid an undisclosed sum for Travelscene’s mailing list of 330,000 people, plus its email database, photographic library and part of its computer system.
Desktop computers, furniture, offices and Travelscene’s reservation system were not part of the deal.
Leisure Direction believes it has a comparable product range to the failed city break operator and can offer its former clients an alternative company to book with.
“We have a strong relationship with Advantage travel agents, we’re looking to expand through the trade and we see this as a logical step in that direction,” said Leisure Direction managing director Alan Potts.
“Towards the end Travelscene did quite a lot of direct marketing and got a reasonably healthy direct marketing list, which we believe is of value.”
It is also expected that Leisure Direction will replace Travelscene as the city operator on TIPTO – the Truly Independent Professional Tour Operators’ association.
