ABTA considering parallel conferences
ABTA is considering running a series of one-day conferences in the UK next year in addition to the annual overseas Travel Convention.
Association chief executive Mark Tanzer said the idea was only in an embryonic stage but running domestic events alongside the main convention would enable more agents in particular to attend.
Around 300 agents have registered for this year’s convention in Gran Canaria, a rise in numbers over last year.
But Tanzer said with the average agency employing less than three people, it could be difficult for them to commit to attending an overseas event.
“We are looking hard for next year to an overseas event and a domestic presence,†he said.
The top content from the main convention, including breakout sessions, could be taken and offered at two or three conferences around the UK.
