Abu Dhabi marks up another attraction

Monday, 12 Aug, 2011 0

The United Arab Emirates pavilion designed by Lord Norman Foster’s firm for the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai is currently being re-erected on Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island.

The pavilion, which attracted almost two million visitors during World Expo, will open in the UAE capital when it hosts Abu Dhabi Art 2011, the international platform for modern and contemporary art, from November 16-19.

The fair will include about 50 international galleries and a series of exhibitions, talks, performances, workshops and VIP networking events.

Following Abu Dhabi Art, the pavilion will play a major role in accommodating artistic events and artists in residence.

With an outer covering of gold-coloured stainless steel and an undulating roof, the pavilion – which shimmers and changes colour – is set to become an Abu Dhabi landmark.

“The pavilion will be as much of an attraction as the events it hosts and brings added value to the expanding Saadiyat Island tourism proposition,” said Mubarak Al Muhairi, director general Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.

Upcoming Saadiyat Island developments include the Monte Carlo Beach Club, the UAE’s first St. Regis hotel and the Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas.
