Accor’s promise: stay three and it’s free

Thursday, 7 May 20093 min read

SYDNEY – Accor hurriedly sent out a media release correction this week after announcing what had to the best hotel deal ever – stay free at an Accor hotel and come back for another free night.

But before The Mole could grab the phone and book his free nights at Sofitel or Pullman or Ibis, the mistake was corrected.

The quote from Simon McGrath, Accor’s vice president Australia, should have been, “People want value for their holiday dollar these days, and the ‘Stay For Free, Return for Free’ package offers genuine value in these difficult economic times.”

It wasn’t intended, as the original media release promised, that Accor guests could “stay for free and return for another night for free.”

And just to make sure there is no confusion between free and three, here is part of what Accor intended to say:

Accor has launched a new ‘Stay For Three, Return for Free’ promotion which offers a free night’s accommodation as well as dining benefits when guests stay three consecutive nights at any of Accor’s hotels in Australia (except Formule 1) between May 11 August 31, 2009.

Guests will receive a six-month membership for Accor’s Advantage Plus loyalty programme, which will entitle them to one free night of accommodation, plus a guaranteed 10 percent discount on the best available rate any day during the six-month period, and up to a 50 percent discount when dining at any Accor hotel.

“With a free night’s accommodation as well as ongoing accommodation and dining benefits, the six-month Advantage Plus membership offers something special that will enable the holiday to linger on,” says Simon McGrath, Accor’s vice president Australia.

“People want value for their holiday dollar these days, and the ‘Stay For Free, Return for Free’ package offers genuine value in these difficult economic times.”

The offer is valid for stays at more than 100 Sofitel, Pullman, MGallery, Grand Mercure, Novotel, Mercure, all seasons or Ibis hotels around Australia.

So that’s it then, three and it’s free, otherwise it’s not.
