Adelaide gets ready to shake, rattle and roll for ATE
A report in the Adelaide Advertiser says that Adelaide is getting ready to shake, rattle and role later this week and next week, with the week-long Australian Tourism Exchange, touted as the southern hemisphere’s largest tourism trade show, attracting more than 600 travel experts from more than 40 countries, taking place in the city.
Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith said, “Operators from around the world will be offered hundreds of options to sample South Australia’s premier attractions and there are about 600 site-specific travel options”. We’ll be running tours of Kangaroo Island, the wine regions, even a mini cattle-drive, with SA tour operators running a taste of what’s on offer so the buyers go home and package them up as package holidays.”
“ATE is expected to generate about 13,000 visitor nights in Adelaide hotels and inject $10 million into the local economy and as well as trade experts, more than 50 international travel journalists were expected to attend”, said Dr Lomax-Smith.
The event is managed and owned by Tourism Australia and co-hosted by the South Australian Tourism Commission and Dr Lomax-Smith said the event would help generate billions of dollars in export earnings.
“This is an absolute coup for Adelaide”. “It’s only the second time it has been held outside the eastern seaboard and the first time it’s been held in SA,” she said.
“ATE will allow SA tourism operators to meet with some of the most influential tourism wholesalers from across the globe”.
“Wholesalers will also have the opportunity to visit some of our finest attractions and experience the delights of Adelaide and South Australia first-hand.” “These are the people who put together holiday packages and recommend destinations to travellers from around the globe, so the ongoing benefits to our State are obvious.”
Dr Lomax-Smith said the economic effects would be felt for many years to come, with the State Government supported the ATE, which has been two years in the planning, with $2 million in funding.
