Adventure tour operator adds ‘wellness’ breaks
G Adventures claims it is the largest adventure travel company to launch a collection of tours dedicated to wellness and adventure, with trips to 10 destinations.
It has more than 80 departures planned in 2019 to destinations including Nepal, Costa Rica, Iceland, Patagonia, Tuscany and Peru.
The new Wellness trips range from seven to 13 days and, says G Adventures, ‘balance must-see highlights with a slower pace of travel’.
They will include regular yoga sessions and healthy food choices, and every destination has been selected for its ‘wellness’ aspect. Guests will also participate in local rituals such as a purification bath in Bali (pictured), a prayer ceremony with monks in Nepal and an ashram stay in India.
MD EMEA Brian Young said: "Now is the opportune time to launch into the Wellness space as more people look to combine the healthy lifestyles they have cultivated at home with their explorations abroad.
"The wellness industry has skyrocketed in recent years. According to the Global Wellness Institute, the wellness industry is now worth $3.7 trillion globally, with consumers seeking new ways to alleviate stress, reduce illness and boost wellbeing.
"Our new Wellness trips are designed to meet this demand, and also to be inclusive – they are suitable for travellers of all ages and abilities, and are centred around the three pillars of mindfulness, movement and nourishment. We also aim to cater for all kinds of dietary preferences, from gluten-free to vegan."
Every trip will be led by a chief experience officer, and begins with an ‘intention-setting ceremony’ where guests will explore their reasons for seeking wellbeing and set out what they want to achieve from their journey, said G Adventures. A variety of yoga disciplines will be led by local experts, as well as guided meditation. Activities include hikes in Iceland, paddle boarding in Costa Rica and cycling in Bali.
Prices start from £1,199 for seven nights in Peru visiting Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.
