Following a demand by a plot’s union to vaccinate the workforce, Air India is taking action.
The airline promised to vaccinate all employees by the end of the month of May.
Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) had threatened the airline with industrial action unless it protected pilots against the virus.
Pilots would stop work unless AI took immediate action to inoculate pilots, ICPA said in a letter to Air India director for operations R S Sandhu.
"We are in no position to continue risking the lives of our pilots without vaccination … If Air India fails to set up vaccination camps on a pan-India basis on priority, we will stop work," the ICPA said in the leter.
The airline said it will now draw up a schedule for vaccinations across all bases and they hope to start vaccinating staff next week.
