Malaysia’s Air Asia X has put back plans to launch budget flights from Stansted to Kuala Lumpur.
The carrier had been planning to offer flights before Christmas but they are now likely to be put back at least until March and possibly until June 2009.
A spokesman for the company said the delay was due to problems finding suitable aircraft for the new route and not the economic climate or the rising cost of fuel.
The airline is planning return fares from £350 and six flights a week.
Air Asia X is part owned by Sir Richard Branson and is a subsidiary of budget airline Air Asia.
