Air Canada has announced the introduction of its first direct flights to China from Montreal.
Beginning February 16, 2017, Air Canada will fly daily year-round to Shanghai and the route brings Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft to Montreal for the first time.
"Building on Air Canada’s success in the rapidly growing Chinese market we are delighted to announce the first direct flights between Montreal and China," said CEO Calin Rovinescu.
"This also marks the introduction of Air Canada’s first 787 Dreamliner aircraft service from Montreal, further underlining our commitment to expand our global reach and reinforce Montreal-Trudeau as a strategic hub."
The new route will expand the carrier’s international route network from Montreal to 13 cities in Europe, North Africa and China.
Flights to and from Montreal are timed to complement flight connections to and from its Eastern Canada and US routes including New York and Boston.
In China fellow Star Alliance partner Shenzhen Airlines offers onward flight connections out of Shanghai for Air Canada customers to domestic destinations including Chengdu, Chongqing and Shenzhen.
