Air Canada warns customers over app data breach

Air Canada has warned customers of a data breach in its mobile app which may have impacted the personal information of 20,000 customers.

As a result the carrier said it locked all 1.7 million accounts as a precaution, asking all customers to change their passwords.

Personal data ‘may potentially have been improperly accessed’ it said after unusually high log”in activity was detected between August 22 – 24, 2018.

Each customer’s user name, email address and telephone number is stored in the app but Air Canada says all card data is encrypted.

Other optional data such as a passenger’s passport number and known traveler number may have been accessed if they were stored on the app.

The company is in the process of contacting all the estimated 20,000 customers it believes may have been impacted.
