Air China’s on-off plan for new service to Silicon Valley is back on again.
In May the carrier postponed its planned June 16 launch from Shanghai to San Jose with no confirmed revised date.
It has now announced the three times a week service will definitely begin September 1.
"The new service is a response to a strong demand in Silicon Valley for a direct flight to Shanghai," a statement from Air China vice president of North America Zhihang Chi said.
"The interdependence of two of the world’s largest economies makes the San Jose-Shanghai service a compelling case in this age of globalization," he added.
The flight will be operated by A330-200 jets with business and economy class.
The airline said the delay and confusion was due to unresolved talks with Chinese aviation regulators.
The carrier serves several US destinations including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Houston and Honolulu.
"This has been a tremendous year for Mineta San José International Airport and I’m excited that Silicon Valley business and leisure travelers will soon be able to fly nonstop to Shanghai," said San Jose mayor Sam Liccardo.
