Air India crash ‘sabotage’ theory being probed

The Air India crash investigation has taken a worrying turn.

The Indian government said air investigators are now looking at sabotage as a possible cause.

A Boeing 787 Dreamliner en route to London Gatwick Airport crashed just moments after take-off from Ahmedabad Airport.

It claimed the lives of 242 passengers and crew, with one sole survivor – British national Vishwash Ramesh.

“The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has begun a full probe. It is being assessed from all angles, including any possible sabotage,” Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said.

Sabotage has been speculated ever since the crash but it is the first time the government has publicly stated it as a possibility.

Investigators suggested both engines seemed to have lost power within a couple of minutes which is virtually unheard of.

Media reported the AAIB is looking at the possibility of a deliberate act of fuel contamination.

Mohol added: “The CCTV footage is being reviewed and all angles are being assessed. Several agencies are working on it.”
