Air India offers voluntary retirement to slash workforce

Saturday, 01 Jun, 2022 0

New owner Tata Group has made its first move to trim Air India’s bloated workforce.

It has slashed the eligible age to apply for voluntary retirement from 55 years of age to just 40 years.

It applies to cabin crew members, and some office-based and unskilled workers.

An ex-gratia amount will be given to employees who apply for voluntary retirement by July 31, 2022

Those who apply by June 30 will receive an ‘additional incentive.’

“The acceptance of your application for the above benefits and the date of release shall be subject to management’s discretion,” it said in the VRS memo.

Pre-Covid the airline had about 10,000 permanent employees.
