Air Transat hit by cheap fare glitch
Under-fire Canadian carrier Air Transat has been experiencing more troubles, although some customers are thankful for it.
The carrier was hit by a pricing glitch over the weekend, causing too good to be true transatlactic airfares up for grabs priced at little more than C$100 round trip.
Return flights from Toronto to Dublin, priced at $108 and Montreal to Paris at $150 were quickly snapped up after websites such as YYZ Deals and Next Departure spotted the glitch.
NextDeparture stated on its website: "As this looks like a possible mistake deal, there is a chance the booking site may cancel and refund your order. Do NOT make any further flight, hotel or other arrangements until you received your confirmation and e-ticket number. Even then, wait an additional 72-96 hours."
Alas for most who booked it was too good to be true.
Most reservations were then cancelled but ‘bookings that have been completed will be honored. We are working to re-establish reservations that have not been completed for customers who have a file number," Air Transat said.
According to Canadian rules, a ticketed itinerary may be cancelled due to a mistake fare if the carrier notifies the customer no later than 72 hours after it becomes aware of the glitz.
It must then refund the customer in full.
There is currently a class action lawsuit against Air Canada over a pricing glitch it experienced two years ago.
