AirAsia Expedia Travel CEO steps down
The chief executive of AAE Travel, the joint venture between Expedia, Inc and budget carrier AirAsia, has stepped down.
Kathleen Tan was appointed CEO in 2013 and had served on the board of directors since the joint venture was formed in 2011.
The change comes a few months after Expedia increased their stake in the joint venture by 25% and now has 75% control of AAE Travel.
A change at the top was expected since Expedia upped its stake but no details have been announced regarding a new chief executive appointment.
For the interim at least, AAE Travel will fall under the responsibility of Gary Morrison, Expedia’s head of retail, worldwide, who is based in London.
"Kat was an integral part of the leadership team that helped propel AirAsia into success and I knew she would do the same for AirAsia Expedia. She did just that and more," said AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes.
"Under her leadership, AirAsia Expedia has seen significant growth in both brand awareness and revenue. Her departure from AirAsia Expedia will be a big loss for the group but on behalf of the AirAsia family, I would like to thank Kat for her tremendous contributions."
