Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia has launched a paid service allowing passengers to send and receive tweets at 30,000 feet.
AirAsia has joined with in-flight communications company RoKKI to offer the service which includes access to Twitter and messaging apps WeChat, WhatsApp, LINE and KakaoTalk.
The new service follows a limited roll out of Wi-Fi on select AirAsia flights.
The news was announced by serial Tweeter Tony Fernandes, group CEO of AirAsia.
"Posting my first tweet from 30,000ft. And now you can, too. Congrats @rokki_official for bringing @Twitter to @AirAsia," he tweeted.
The service is priced at RM9 ($2.39) for a 3MB mobile data package.
The airline said it will be available on about 4,000 flights each month to start.
