Rising jet fuel prices and escalating tensions in the Middle East have forced AirAsia to suspend two Australia-Bali routes, dealing another setback to Bali’s tourism sector.
According to AirAsia, the final Denpasar-Melbourne and Denpasar-Adelaide flights will operate on June 17, while the last outbound services from Melbourne and Adelaide to Bali will depart June 18. Full suspension of both routes takes effect June 19, 2026.
Indonesia AirAsia general manager Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman said the airline was left with little choice as operating costs continued to climb. “The current operating environment means we must refocus our network on routes that remain commercially and operationally sustainable,” he explained.
Abdurachman acknowledged the disruption for travelers who had already booked trips to Bali. The termination of both flights come as a surprise as the airline originally announced to expand its service to Australia.
In March 2026, AirAsia announced Adelaide-Bali services would increase from four weekly flights to daily operations, with plans for up to 10 weekly flights during peak travel periods. The carrier also launched daily Melbourne-Bali flights earlier this year, but those services will now end on June 18.
The Bali expansion had already come at the expense of AirAsia’s Northern Territory network. The airline indeed dropped Darwin-Kuala Lumpur and Darwin-Bali routes to make way to the new Adelaide flight.
