AirAsia X poised for Stansted-Australia debut
Low cost return flights between Australia and UK are on the horizon with AirAsia X planning to enter the ‘kangaroo route’.
The long haul low cost carrier plans a Gold Coast-Kuala Lumpur-London service later this year, and a second Australian destination from October.
The carrier, in which Virgin Group has a 20% stake, aims to offer regular fares between Australia and UK for under £500.
Kuala Lumpur-Stansted services are due to commence by the end of the year with two leased A340s.
AirAsia X is to announce a second Australian destination by May, with services from Kuala Lumpur in October, with a third Australian destination from early 2009.
“Active discussions†are taking place to serve Melbourne, although other cities bidding aggressively to attract fights by the Malaysian carrier.
