Airbnb hires former Amazon finance executive ahead of expected IPO

Airbnb has hired former Amazon executive Dave Stephenson as its new chief financial officer as the home sharing giant preps for an expected IPO next year.

Stephenson spent 17 years at Amazon, most recently as vice president and CFO of Amazon’s Worldwide Consumer Organization.

Stephenson takes over as finance chief in early January 2019.

He has led financial operations across many different units at Amazon, including North America retail, merchant services and Amazon Web Services.

Prior to Amazon he was CFO of Big Fish Games.

"Dave is one of the best financial operators in the world. Dave will be Airbnb’s quarterback for long-term growth, driving us to be even more efficient," said CEO Brian Chesky.

It comes after the company said the last quarter was its best ever, with substantially more than $1 billion in revenue.
