AirHelp: Over 15 million passengers faced air travel disruption in Q3
Air passenger rights organisation AirHelp says 15 million passengers across the UK suffered air travel disruptions between July and September this year.
There were 235,963 registered flights departing from the UK during this period, with 37 million people travelling.
A deep dive into AirHelp’s data uncovers that approximately 40% of travellers experienced disruptions.
Most UK passengers faced delays under three hours, meaning they were not eligible for financial compensation, however over 1.2 million people had the right to claim and receive financial compensation from their airline.
In fact, over 681,000 travellers had their trips cancelled altogether.
During the summer season, it found London Gatwick had the highest disruption rate of 55%, affecting over 3.2 million passengers.
Edinburgh Airport was next with 44% of passengers disrupted between July and September this year.
The most punctual airport was Belfast City Airport with only 25% of flights disrupted.
The most disrupted route from the UK according to AirHelp was London Gatwick to Jeddah Saudi Arabia.
It ranked the highest with over 96% of flights disrupted during this period.
Routes from Heathrow Airport take the second, fourth and fifth spot on the ranking – with its route to Bangalore Airport having a disruption rate of 87%.
Third place was Manchester to Istanbul, with 81% of passengers facing delays or cancellations.
