Airline agrees to pay crash clean up costs to San Francisco

Asiana Airlines has agreed to compensate the city of San Francisco with $3.45 million for costs relating to the July 2013 crash at SFO which killed three passengers.
Dozens were also seriously injured after Asiana Flight 214 clipped a sea wall as it attempted to land at the airport.
The South Korean carrier will settle a legal claim brought by the city demanding recompense for cleanup costs and legal fees arising out of the crash.
"This proposed settlement represents the final chapter in the sad tragedy Asiana caused, and we’re grateful to reach a resolution on our claims without the need for litigation," city attorney Dennis Herrera said in a statement.
"In the face of enormous danger to their own lives, our firefighters and police showed selflessness and dedication that deserves our gratitude."
The US National Transportation Safety Board laid part of the blame on pilot error.
Three teenage girls died in the crash, one of whom had exited the crashed plane but was then run over by an approaching rescue vehicle.
