Airline fined for mile-high bikini show

A Vietnamese airline which held a mid-air bikini show to woo passengers has been fined.

The Vietnam Aviation Authority ordered the privately-owned carrier, VietJetAir (VJA), to pay US$938 for violating local aviation regulations.

VJA hosted the bikini show, which was called a Hawaiian dance performance, with the participation of contestants from a local beauty pageant.

"It was the first flight to a beach town, so we came up with the idea of getting a number of girls in bikinis to dance and make passengers happy to improve our customer service," a VietjetAir official was quoted as saying.

Several women in Hawaiian bikinis trooped through the cabin on the inaugural VJA flight from Ho Chi Minh City to the coastal holiday destination of Nha Trang.

The passengers photographed and took videos of the scantily clad women, performing a hip-shaking dance in front of them during the night flight, which later featured on the Internet.
