A US airline is being sued by a mum who realised mid-flight that her 15-year-old daughter had been bumped off the plane without her being informed.
Stacy Giordano was sat at the rear of the plane with her son while her daughter was assigned a seat at the front.
The teen was taken off the flight due to overbooking, but alleges she was not given the opportunity to talk to her mother before being taken off the plane.
Giordano only realized mid-air that her daughter was not onboard.
"When the child says, ‘My mother’s in the back of the plane, why are you taking me off?’ And they just take the child off and say, ‘Sit here, you’ll be on the next flight out…’ You don’t just separate a child from their mother," attorney Jerry Thurswell said.
Both mother and daughter experienced emotional distress, the law suit claims.
Giordano ‘suffered a panic attack, mental anguish and psychological trauma,’ in not knowing what had happened to her daughter, it adds.
Her daughter was placed on the next flight to Detroit but was left unaccompanied in Tampa airport, the suit alleges.
It is seeking $75,000 in damages for the ‘careless and negligent’ actions of the airline.
