Airlines scramble for new fuel supplies after pipeline cyberattack
A ransomeware cyberattack that shut down of the country’s largest fuel pipeline is causing jet fuel supply worries for airlines. Colonial Pipeline Co said it hopes to restore full operations by the end of the week. The pipeline covers 5,500 miles from Texas to New Jersey.
American Airlines has been forced to make some routing changes by adding fuel stops to some flights and Southwest Airlines is flying planes with more fuel. Additionally, airlines are seeking alternative fuel supplies to get through the next few days.
United Airlines said that it is working with airports ‘to understand the impact’ but operations are not impacted at the moment.
