Airport worker ‘ingested’ into aircraft engine was suicide
The death of an airport worker who was ingested into an aircraft engine was deemed a suicide.
David Renner, 27 died after being sucked into the engine of a Delta plane which had earlier touched down at San Antonio International Airport.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office said he died of blunt and sharp-force injuries.
The ME didn’t elaborate but said it was deliberate on Renner’s part and ruled it as suicide.
The National Transportation Safety Board had prepared to investigate but will no longer do so due to the Medical Examiner’s findings.
“There were no operational safety issues with either the airplane or the airport.”
Renner was a ground worker employed by Unifi Aviation which provides services for Delta at the airport.
“From our initial investigation, this incident was unrelated to Unifi’s operational and safety procedures,” Unifi said.
