Airports struggle with more weather delays

Manchester Airport’s runway is open again after a brief closure to clear snow from the tarmac.

Dozens of Manchester flights were cancelled on Sunday but so far for Monday, just three flights were grounded.

These are to Abu Dhabi, Zurich and Copenhagen, according to Flightradar24.

However, 35 flights have been delayed this morning.

This morning the runways were closed for less than one hour.

“Our runways are now open but, as a result of the earlier closure, some departures and arrivals may still experience delays,” the airport said in a X post.

Flights were also cancelled and delayed at Birmingham Airport, Bristol, Leeds Bradford and Liverpool.

Leeds Bradford Airport also issued an update: “Our teams have been working overnight to clear the runway. Most of last night’s arrivals were diverted. Disruption to today’s flights is expected.”

Runway closures were caused by a combination of snow, fog and rain since early Sunday.

Jet2 said flight delays at some airports are expected but it doesn’t expect to cancel services.

Flight data analytics firm Cirium said more than 150 UK departing flights were cancelled on Sunday.

Manchester Airport had the most cancellations.

Bristol Airport also suffered significant disruption on Sunday.
