Alaska Airlines adds more nonstop routes at San Diego

Thursday, 16 March 20173 min read
Alaska Airlines’ expansion on the West Coast continues apace.
San Diego fliers are the latest to benefit with the carrier announcing six new routes from Southern California.
Starting in August Alaska will start flying nonstop from San Diego to Albuquerque, Austin, Kansas City, Minneapolis/St. Paul Omaha and St. Louis.
The new daily flights take Alaska’s coverage to 28 routes at the airport and they will be operated by regional Embraer E175 jets.
The new expansion comes just days after announcing 13 new routes from San Francisco and San Jose in Northern California.
"Alaska Airlines has grown more than any other carrier in San Diego over the last five years, with the addition of 18 nonstop destinations and nearly twice as many departing seats," said John Kirby, Alaska’s vice president of capacity planning.
"We want to thank Airport Authority President and CEO Thella Bowens and her terrific team for their partnership. Without Thella’s strong leadership and support over the years, our growth wouldn’t have been possible."
Alaska’s previously announced routes from SAN take off for the first time this week to Baltimore and Sacramento, and flight details for the carrier’s upcoming Mexico City service will be announced once government approval is secured.
