Alaska Airlines has announced plans for a new premium class service from next year.
The Seattle-based carrier will reconfigure aircraft to offer three to four inches more legroom, priority boarding and additional amenities.
"Premium class will provide an opportunity for all customers to get an enhanced flight experience," said Andrew Harrison, chief commercial officer at Alaska Airlines.
"We are listening to our customers and they have told us that more personal space and extra perks are a priority."
Alaska will retrofit up to 60 planes with premium seating next year and the remainder of the fleet by the end of 2017.
The airline also announced extra seat pitch in the first class cabin from 36 to 41 inches and said the number of seats on some aircraft will be reduced as a result of the changes.
The new premium class service will be offered as a free upgrade to elite Mileage Plan members at booking or on the day of travel subject to member status and the fare purchased.
Premium class pricing and more details of the in-flight experience will be announced in the future, Alaska said.
