ALHA survey shows a hotel industry still on life support
Nine out of every 10 hotels in the US have been forced to cut workers according to a new study by the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
In a survey of more than 1,200 AHLA members, 90% said they have laid off or furloughed workers since the pandemic started.
Of these, 36% have not yet been able to bring any of their furloughed or laid-off staff back to work full-time.
ALHA found less than a quarter of member hotels are at 60% of pre-Covid staffing levels yet and 29% still at only 20% staffing.
"It’s hard to overstate just how devastating the pandemic has been for the hotel industry. We have never seen a crisis of this magnitude," AHLA president and CEO Chip Rogers said.
The data was captured on 23-27 July.
Of 600 hotel owners that responded in the survey, more than half say there is a real risk of lenders foreclosing on their property.
"We are encouraged to see many of AHLA’s industry priorities included in the Senate package. We urge Congress to direct help to the industries and employees that need it the most, and to move swiftly to support them," Rodgers added.
