All passengers safe after river cruise boat sinks in Bangkok
Seventy-five people escaped unhurt from a sinking river cruise vessel in Bangkok.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the sinking of the High Season 1, a three-storey boat offering dinner cruises on the Chao Praya River.
It sank near a private pier in Bangkok’s Khlong San district.
The 60 guests comprised Thai and Chinese nationals mostly staying at a Bangkok hotel.
There were also 15 crew members aboard.
"The ship made a U-turn to return to the hotel when it reached Phra Pok Klao Bridge. The operator noticed that the ship was tilting to the right side, probably caused by a leak," said Jakkri Sriraksa, of the Khlong San Rescue Volunteer Foundation.
"They radioed the nearest pier for emergency embarking and safely evacuated all 75 passengers and staff on the shore."
It comes a day after a ferry capsized near Koh Samui in bad weather which claimed two lives including the ferry skipper.
