American Airline pilots again protest over ‘unsuitable’ layover hotels
American Airlines pilots have again warned management they are not getting the level of hospitality they deserve when on overnight layovers.
They issued a second warning about the standard of layover hotels contracted to house pilots overnight, blaming the company’s nickel-and-diming culture.
The Allied Pilots Association (APA), representing about 15,000 AA pilots first brought the issue to attention earlier this year.
American countered, saying there were no cutbacks planned on hotel accommodations.
It has since become worse than ever the union says.
"AA’s hotel failures have reached a critical stage" it wrote in another memo to management.
The union calls out a number of specific hotels including Drury Inn Airport and Radisson Airport Hotel in Nashville, and hotels in London which are ‘completely unsuitable,’ for pilots who need sufficient rest to safely operate flights.
