American Airlines continues flight waivers for California

American Airlines extended a travel alert and flight change waiver until at least November 1 for passengers at several Los Angeles area airports as multiple fires continue to scorch Southern California.

Customers can reschedule their travel without a fee for tickets booked to fly to, from or through Los Angeles International, Ontario International, Long Beach, Hollywood Burbank and John Wayne Airport in Orange County.

Travelers can log on to the American website or contact call center staff.

The flight waiver is effective through Friday, November 1.

An extreme red flag alert was issued as strong winds fueled more than a dozen fast moving brush fires affecting areas such as Riverside, Santa Clarita,, and Long Beach.

The biggest blaze was in Ventura County which was tackled by 800 fire fighters.

Delta also has a travel alert and fee waiver in effect.

"American has also issued a travel alert for the Sonoma County Airport in Northern California due to the Kincade Fire," the airline said.

The flight waiver for Sonoma County Airport was extended through November 3.

Fire crews have made progress in containing the Kincade fire although most flights remain canceled through Thursday at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport.

Sonoma County Airport manager Jon Stout said American could resume some flights on Friday if safe to do so.

In Southern California the strong winds are expected to weaken on Friday and Saturday, giving fire fighters and residents hope they can be finally brought under control.
