For travelers aiming to alleviate in-flight boredom, don’t forget to bring your cellphone or tablet device when flying on American Airlines’ new Boeing MAX jets.
The new planes won’t feature seat back video screens simply because almost all travelers now bring their own handphones, tablets and laptops.
"More than 90 percent of our passengers already bring a device or screen with them when they fly. Those phones and tablets are continually upgraded, they’re easy to use and, most importantly, they are the technology our customers have chosen," the airline says.
It plans to keep seatback screens on widebody jets including the Boeing 777, Boeing 787 and Airbus A330 which operate on international routes.
American is upgrading its Wi-Fi to a faster, satellite-powered service to enable flyers to stream video movies and TV shows and sees static seat back monitors as dated tech.
"It makes sense for American to focus on giving customers the best entertainment and fast connection options rather than installing seatback monitors that will be obsolete within a few years."
The airline is due to take delivery of four Boeing MAX jets later this year.
