A passenger caused a stink aboard an American Airlines jet, forcing an unplanned landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
In what may very well be a first, a passenger who ‘passed gas’ forced the plane to reroute and land.
According to an airport spokesperson, some passengers complained of nausea and headaches.
All occupants deplaned at RDU and after an inspection, officials determined a flatulent passenger was the likely cause.
However airport officials then backtracked slightly, describing it simply as a ‘medical call.’
Officials refused to identify any more details about the flight or where it was heading to.
The airline itself also tried to play down the incident.
"We did have an aircraft from Charlotte to RDU this afternoon that is currently out of service for an actual mechanical issue – and odor in the cabin. But it is not due to ‘passed gas’ as mentioned," said spokesman Ross Feinstein.
