American Airlines pilots’ union threatens to strike
American Airlines’ pilots are planning strike action over overscheduling, work fatigue and a lack of layover hotels during the busy summer. The Allied Pilots Association, which represents American’s 15,000 pilots, is currently in the middle of contract negotiations.
American has struggled with short staffing over the peak summer season leading to cancellations and last minute rescheduling. The same problems have also afflicted Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines Pilots Association also said it was considering picketing at US airports over similar issues.
